Dental Implants in Adelaide

High-Quality Implant Care Since 2010

If you are missing one or more teeth, dental implants are a premium option for restoring both the function and appearance of your smile. Designed to look, feel and perform like natural teeth, implants provide durable, long-lasting results.

An implant is placed into the jawbone and acts as a stable foundation for a replacement tooth or bridge. Implant treatment is not suitable for everyone; outcomes depend on bone quality, oral health and healing. At your consultation, Dr Renu Karn and her team assess suitability, risks, benefits and alternatives so your treatment is safe and appropriate.

Dental Implant Options for Missing Teeth

01

Single Dental Implants

  • A small titanium implant acts as a new artificial root. Once healed, a custom crown restores the tooth’s shape, strength and appearance, looking, feeling and functioning much like your own.
02

Multiple Dental Implants

  • Implants support individual crowns or a bridge across several gaps, improving chewing, appearance and stability, and stopping neighbouring teeth from drifting.
03

All-on-4 Full-Arch Implants

  • When most or all teeth are missing, four to six implants support a fixed full arch of teeth, a stable alternative to full dentures.

04

Implant-Supported Dentures

  • Two or more implants anchor a denture so it no longer relies on suction or adhesive, improving comfort, chewing strength and confidence, and helping slow bone loss.

We use guided surgery to support precise, predictable implant placement, helping reduce chair time and, in many cases, minimise the need for multiple surgical appointments.

The Dental Implant Process

A complete implant restoration involves several carefully planned stages, each playing an important role in a stable, natural-looking result.

  1. 1

    Consultation & Imaging

A clinical examination and CBCT imaging evaluate your bone, gums and suitability, and a personalised plan is created.

  2. 2

    Preparatory Treatment

Some patients need gum treatment, extractions or bone-supporting procedures first, to create the healthiest foundation.

  3. 3

    Implant Placement

The titanium implant is placed under local anaesthetic, with guided surgery and digital planning for precise positioning.

  4. 4

    Osseointegration

Over the next few months (usually 3–4), the implant integrates with the bone to create a stable foundation.

  5. 5

    Abutment & Crown

An abutment and a custom crown are attached, matched to the shape, colour and function of your natural teeth.

Am I a Candidate for Dental Implants?

Many patients who are healthy enough for a routine extraction or minor oral surgery are suitable for implants. Age alone is not a barrier. Before recommending treatment, we assess:

  • Gum health

  • Bone volume and density

  • Your overall medical history

  • Oral hygiene habits

  • Commitment to regular dental reviews

Heavy smoking, uncontrolled diabetes, heart disease or previous radiation therapy to the head or neck may need individual evaluation. For suitable cases, same-day implant restoration may be possible, and Dr Karn will advise on the best approach for you.

How Do Implants Compare to Bridges and Dentures?

The right option depends on how many teeth are missing, your bone volume, health and goals. If a natural tooth can be saved with root canal therapy, that is always explored first.

Caring for Your Dental Implant

Long-term implant success depends on consistent oral hygiene and regular professional monitoring.

  • Brush Twice Daily

Use a soft-bristled toothbrush around the implant crown. Plaque at the implant margin can contribute to peri-implant gum disease.

  • Clean Between Teeth

Use implant-specific floss, a floss threader or an interdental brush every day.

  • Avoid Excessive Force

Avoid chewing ice or opening packaging with your teeth. A nightguard may be recommended if you grind.

  • Check-ups & Prompt Reviews

Attend scheduled check-ups, and contact us promptly if you notice pain, mobility, swelling or a change in your bite.

What Influences the Cost of Implant Treatment?

Costs vary with your clinical situation. Before treatment, you receive a written, itemised estimate covering every stage, with item numbers to check with your health fund. No surprises.

  • Number of implants

    Single, multiple or full-arch.

  • Bone grafting

    If additional support is required.

  • Preliminary treatment

Gum therapy, extractions or other preparatory care.

  • Crown material

Ceramic, zirconia or other restorative options.

  • Health fund cover

    Contributions vary by policy.

  • Payment planning

    Flexible options available.

Dental Implant FAQs

Book an appointment

Are dental implants painful?

Implant placement is performed under local anaesthetic, so you shouldn’t feel the procedure. Mild soreness or swelling for a few days afterwards is normal, similar to a routine extraction, and most patients manage it with over-the-counter or prescribed pain relief.

How long do dental implants last?

Implants are designed as a long-term tooth replacement. With good oral hygiene, regular reviews and healthy gums, they can last many years. General health, smoking, gum disease and bite forces can influence longevity.

Does my health fund cover implants?

Cover varies by fund and level of extras. Some policies contribute to parts of treatment, such as the crown or surgical component. We provide item numbers so you can check before starting.

Am I too old for dental implants?

Age alone is not a barrier. What matters most is bone quality, gum health and overall medical stability.

What happens if an implant fails?

Failure is uncommon. If an implant doesn’t integrate or becomes unstable, it can usually be removed and replaced after healing. We’ll assess the cause and recommend the best next steps.
